Emerging threat: Tackling the climate challenge

ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan has been ranked 3rd on the list of most vulnerable countries to climate change and has already begun experiencing severe climate changes.

At a meeting organised by the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Federal Minister of Science and Technology Zahid Hamid said that developing countries suffer the most due to climate change when they contribute the least.
Secretary Ministry of Science and Technology Kamran Ali Qureshi in his address stated that the annual rate of deforestation in Pakistan ranges from 4-6 % while carbon dioxide emissions are gradually increasing at the rate of 8 to 10 %.
The annual cost of tackling environment degradation as a result of this global warming effect is US $ 5.2 billion. Qureshi at this occasion stated that the Ministry of Science and Technology will support the programmes and projects identified by experts for overcoming the challenges of climate change.
